About U3Gen

The "University of Three Generations" (U-3G) appears to be a conceptual institution or initiative with a mission to improve the lives of children, youth, and adults by fostering collaboration and cooperation among these three generations. It emphasizes the passing of knowledge to the next generations and promoting various forms of learning, including formal, informal, and non-formal education. University of Three Generations (U-3G) is a similar concept to the University of the Third Age (U-3G), which was started in France in 1973, aiming to provide education and stimulate mainly retired members of the community - those in their third 'age' of life. By the early 1980s, the concept reached the United Kingdom, where its nature was radically changed to be more of a self-help organization under the influence of its founders. Similarly, the U-3G concept began in Australia in 1984, following the British self-help model of teaching and learning over a wide range of subject areas depending upon the members’ expertise, knowledge, and skills. In the United States, organizations similar to U-3G are called lifelong learning institutes. From the history of the U-3G it can be concluded that its central focus is on the third 'age' of the associated members’ life only. However, U-3G - in Nepal - has incorporated a broader concept of empowering and involving three generations: youth, working men and women, and retired groups of senior citizens to lead and transform society.
